Project 2: Sequencing
I have been looking to use seventh chords more in my arrangements so I created this track more as a backing track to solo over. The form is ABA, with B being a Rhodes/organ solo.
I began making the piece by choosing a chord progression in G minor. Afterwards, I added a short melody to accompany the changes. I added a beat with a drum machine, and an upright bass. I then added plugins to all of the instrument tracks to make them more expressive. I then did an improv solo over the tracks with a midi keyboard, and doubled the track so it was being played through an electric piano and an organ.
Adding plugins gave the music character, and made the tone of the song more somber than before. Reverb gives the chord changes a soulful feel. The drum machine was made into a lo-fi machine through the use of plug ins. I used a vinyl effect over several tracks, making the song sound like an old record. I panned the two tracks of the solo to either side to give It a spacier feel.
